Little ride out
We got up earlier than yesterday and were on the road by 9am, assuming it would be so busy in Windsor we’d need to battle to find a parking space. However when we arrived in Eton we were surprised to find several spaces in our usual car park with no problem, and indeed neither Eton nor Windsor was very busy at all!
It was lovely to wander around the towns and across the river, reminding ourselves of places we used to visit, and spotting any changes since we were last here (can’t remember how long ago that was!) and of the years I lived around the corner (left nearly 20 years ago!).
It started a bit cloudy but was soon bright and sunny and lovely to walk around in. We enjoyed a coffee and a shared chocolate and spiced pastry from a little Danish shop as we walked. The parish church had some lovely stained glass and carvings, and a rather self indulgent organist who was accompanying himself singing in a loud (but not wholly brilliant) countertenor voice throughout our visit.
K bought some new cutlery in a sale but otherwise we didn’t buy anything except some bread for tomorrow and a couple of Christmas buns from Gail’s for later.
We drove over to meet T at TG&S’s house. Haven’t seen them for ages and we had a nice chat and admired their new build house which they were super proud of (designed to within an inch of its life and very magazine perfect). They’re such a lovely couple, good on them for achieving what they so clearly love. Unfortunately their wee ones were having a nap so we didn’t get to meet them but saw lots of photos.
From there we went for a late lunch at the nearby pub with T and chatted away about his flat, holidays, work, haircuts and all sorts of nonsense. We all enjoyed ourselves and although it’s sad I won’t see him at Christmas he’s always so tired then from work he will hardly notice it passing so it will be good when he comes up to Edinburgh sometime in the New Year for us to celebrate later.
We drove home without any hitches and settled on the sofa to watch a daft Christmas movie and have our last relax together…I’m driving home tomorrow.
