Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2024 Thursday — BSF Luncheon

We woke to wet sidewalks and rain falling this morning. My agenda was Thursday morning Bible Study Fellowship in Morro Bay. Today was the end of the semester “Christmas Luncheon.”

We did our study of Revelation 7 this morning. So many people think that Revelation is about numbers and dates and far out psychedelic wildness. Some of the gals in our small group explained that they've never read the book of Revelation because they were kind of afraid of it. I've read it many times with Mr. Fun, but I've never thought of it as understandable as I am now. I'm enjoying it so much. It's not about numbers and dates as much as it is about the Revelation of Jesus Christ and His protection for believers; His love and security provides so much hope and confidence for the future. Seeing what happens in Revelation to the nonbelievers is alarming. I enjoyed Chapter 5 thoroughly. I saw the pageantry — magnificent robes and crowns and choirs — it’s regal and royal and wonderful. Seeing and learning that I’m protected from God’s wrath by the Lamb who is also the Shepherd. In Revelation 7 (today’s study), four angels hold back the wind. Have you experienced any Santana winds lately? or here on the Central Coast, we call them the Santa Lucia winds. Can you imagine the angels holding that wind back? Wow!

And then after our study was the Christmas luncheon. The food was delicious, but most of all getting to have conversation with so many who study along with me; these gals who have prayed for me; they've prayed for Mr. Fun; they've prayed for my daughter, my granddaughter; and for our great-grands.

The fellowship was nourishing. Several years ago Mr. Fun & I on purpose moved to the Central Coast; we love it. We did not like leaving behind our life-long friends. Making new friends in this season of retirement has been completely different than when I was a kid and I would walk up to someone on the playground and ask, "Do you want to be friends?" So about the time I asked God if He thought I'd ever have friends here at the coast, I found myself surrounded by the girls at BSF and then many caring people, now friends, at Morro Bay Presbyterian Church.

This was a sweet morning and we also got to taste a new dessert called “sipping chocolate.” We were told it is very much like what is served in France at café Angelina, down the street from the Louvre. Definitely like drinking warm chocolate.

The entire morning was more than sweet.

From California’s Central Coast,
