Day 3; Family and friends
It’s the reason we’re here. We took the opportunity to come for a few weeks in between hospital appointments. It’s a long way and becoming harder work as we get older. We change planes in Doha - but thankfully the stop-over is only about an hour and a half.
We land at 2.15 this morning. One of Dan’s taxi driver friends is waiting to collect us. The drive from the airport is relatively uneventful. No cattle suddenly emerging from the darkness in the middle of the road. Just a few street dogs, guarding their territory. But it’s still a bone-shaker along the wibbly wobbly way.
It’s just before 4.00am by the time we get to D&V’s house. A warm welcome (it’s 22C) and then bed.
It’s a slow morning and then in the afternoon we head out to meet up with Varnika’s cousin Yakshi and her husband, Elvis the baker (that’s his bread oven in the background). Elvis officiated at D&V’s wedding in 2022 (see extra).
Yakshi and Elvis have a houseful - and so we catch up with people we met on earlier visits. A mix of nationalities - Indian, European, Canadian and Japanese - all finding each other through a love of surfing.
Anniemay and I are flagging by about 8.00pm and so we retire gracefully.
