Moonrise

Took the day off and spent it taking care of some errands. The stores were busy and rather miserable. I was glad not to be wasting the weekend standing around in checkout lines. The one bright spot also brought on a mild case of existential panic. In one store I was behind a young couple with a tiny baby girl. She was staring at me and I couldn't help but make a few silly faces and get her laughing. She was so cute it was fascinating. Apparently, without realizing it, I have aged into some kind of "grandpa zone," where babies become cute again. Then I was nervous I might pass straight into "crazy old man zone" and make the couple nervous by giving their child too much attention. Her father noticed she was smiling and laughing and turned to see who was behind him. I could only give him a sheepish look and say "Well, she was staring at me!" Fortunately he was nice about it and we exchanged a few pleasantries. I chalk the whole experience up to holiday cheer.
