Coffee Shop ?
It’s time I thought about Christmas, and Christmas shopping, as I have so far done precisely nothing and am running out of time, so took the train to Liverpool this morning. En route I decided, as it was relatively early, that I would walk uphill from Lime Street to have a look at the two cathedrals.
The Anglican cathedral is my favourite stop for a coffee. I ordered a latte and a toasted tea cake and took this shot. Then the sound checks started - I was sitting next to a speaker, it was really loud, like being at a rock concert. After listening to Crowded House’s “Weather with You” (which I’ve always liked) I got into conversation with the chap in the photo, who was studying a map of the city. He was German, attending the British Ecological Society’s flagship event at the conference centre with 1400 others, and wanted some advice on what to visit and look at. That’s a challenge ! Although maybe not - he turned out to be a big Beatles fan.
The sound checks related to this evening’s big event. It’s the Alder Centre Candle Service, for those who have lost a child. There are going to be tears I imagine. Meanwhile at the Metropolitan (Roman Catholic) Cathedral, which I visited earlier, a group of young girls, dancers and singers, were practicing for the big lunchtime event, the Nugent charity Light up a Life concert to celebrate and remember those we have lost this year (extra). If I had known I might have organised my day differently, I will light my candle at home.
Having spent two hours not joining the Christmas fray, I decided I had better head downhill and do what I had come to Liverpool to do.
