Victoriana

Being a geek I can spot a monarch on a post box any day, in this case a VR for Victoria Regina. There are only a few Edward VIII ones about due to him abdicating before his coronation - they are almost as rare as hen’s teeth - and given the state of the Royal Mail I doubt if Charlie 3 will rack up many new boxes. But I do like a postbox embedded in an old wall like this one. Reeks of permanence. 

We were in Horsham Christmas shopping. TSM loved it. Nice buildings, lovely pubs, markets, coffee shops, and a huge John Lewis / Waitrose on the edge of town. We spent money we shouldn’t have done on gin and vodka, and went a bit barmy on the bread and cake stall. 

Good trip out, although the skies were as grey as a medieval monk’s underpants and there was a damp and clammy quality to the air. Sort of day when you enjoyed being out but were also glad to get back to the warmth and comfort of your own fireside.
