Table
Got some laundry done first thing for going away and did a couple more cards before going down to town for a haircut. Freezing fog in a contrast to yesterday’s sunshine, and it didn’t lift all day. Once home again I did a blitz on clearing up the flat then had a sandwich for lunch before heading back down to town for an update briefing on the concert hall. I wanted to attend as I’ll be away for the big meeting in February and wanted to have as much detail as possible to know the context for upcoming decisions.
After the meeting itself there was a drinks do for the wider team, contractors etc which was jolly. Chatted to GR and DMcD for quite a while then also K the finance lead about house buying in Edinburgh, Brighton beaches vs Edinburgh ones and the M6 farm shop services(!) and JMcN about plans for next week’s reception.
Once S had arrived from the station after her day trip to Dundee we killed some time in the deli at Harvey Nicks before walking down to The Table restaurant. I had a voucher for dinner from T on my birthday earlier this year but this was the first time I’d been able to go (with someone who eats anything, like me….there’s no choices or substitutions here). The concept is that there’s a single bar style table for up to 10 people along the galley kitchen so you watch and chat to the chefs as they cook, as well as seeing the prep and washing up etc. Fascinating as well as being really tasty. It was a particularly intimate evening as there were only 4 of us guests…the other 6 had been one party but they’d had a family bereavement so couldn’t come. It was fun, with a pretty loud soundtrack of classic music which the sous chef was singing along to as he busied around the chef.we even got a little doggy bag to bring home!
Freezing cold when we emerged so we grabbed an Uber home rather than walking, then straight to bed.
