Where has the traffic gone?

I went to yoga today and then afterwards ran some errands in town. As I was walking back up the high street I could see a large black cloud of smoke coming from somewhere. As I approached it I could see the fire engines attending to a burning road sweeper. The driver was ok.

I had to go back into town later in the day. This is the roundabout by the incident. The road is covered with something that hopefully will soak up the diesel spill.
