A Post Pumpkin Hangover, West Malling
It was another grey, grizzly, cold day today so we only ventured out for lunch at the King & Queen in East Malling. When I ordered our food the genial barman said it may take a little while as they were quite busy but we were fine about it as we weren't in any mad rush to head back outside. His other colleague, The Thin Man, (we've been going to this pub for many years and this fellow is never very welcoming) was irate with the barman for taking another food order but as it was just after 12.30 he didn't see why he should stop and found his bad mood quite funny!
On the way back we stopped off at Spadework just outside West Malling to see if we could get a photo or two. Spadework is a garden centre charity that enables people to be more independent, feel less isolated and live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives. It provides services to adults with learning and other disabilities, people experiencing problems with their mental health and those living with dementia.
By its' car park I spotted its' pumpkin picking area left over from Halloween. It had a slight melancholic feel to it as the field behind the signage was, of course, now completely empty of any of the orange orbs but I thought it made for an interesting image.
Once home I attempted to make samosas. I got the keema lamb filling just right but for the life of me could not make the filo pastry into triangles so I gave up and made one big pie instead!
