A Slow Passage

The workboat is making its way across Scapa Flow to its berth in Houton.  The temperature has dropped so the fog is fairly pouring over the top of Ward Hill on Hoy – the highest point if Orkney.  You may not see the point.  Earlier in the morning I went across to the Care Home.  My mother had had another fall, but she seemed OK.  She fell off to sleep while I way away making her a cup of tea.  When she awoke, she immediately asked me if I wanted a boiled egg as she would go and put one on for me.  She was quite insistent.  She even spoke about scotch eggs.  Much later, walking home in the dusk, I moved off the road to let a vehicle past.  It slowed right down.  I realised it was CMC and I walked round and opened the door to climb in.  It was another woman.  Thankfully the NoTW is published on a Sunday now.

I blame Lillian Beckwith.  And folk from Braco predisposed to be allergic to straight tarmacadamed surfaces.
