Storm Darragh
Well, that was a wild night - followed by a wild day! The wind was SO strong - I kept waking up in the night hearing it, and hearing the odd big thump, as presumably big things were blown about. This morning, we discovered that our poor little red robin tree that had been at the top of the drive was now sheared off at the base of its trunk and lying at the bottom of the drive. The fence was swaying wildly, too, but just about hung on by a thread. Tim went out several times to secure our gates which kept flapping open. I really didn't want him to go out there, but capitulated when he suggested that he could wear the safety helmet and visor that he has for hedge trimming. That seemed suitably safe!
Lots of brown-outs throughout the day, but good old National Grid managed to keep us supplied. We had candles and torches at the ready, but thankfully they weren't needed.
