Winter Chill
They looked attractive against the Christmas Decorations at the window of the Scran Bistro on George IV Bridge these yellow chairs, but not so attractive that anyone wanted to sit on them outside as I passed.
It was bitterly cold again on a day when British Gas decided to up my monthly direct debit for energy by 60%. I have a facility on my British Gas app to reduce it, which I did, to a level more appropriate for the next 3 winter months , but I think it was a bit cavalier of them to raise it that much on the evidence of my usage since I got back from Orkney. I’ll be vigilant in watching that I don’t build up a credit for them to have.
Since I was in town anyway, I made a special diversion to suss out the new shop in Waverley Market-
Soøstrene Grenes. It’s a Danish homeware shop which seems to be selling mostly Christmas stuff at the moment. Curiosity sated, I walked home via the High Street which was just about as busy as during the Festival. There were so many different walking tours standing in groups being lectured to before moving off like migratory animals to the next interesting spot. In my head I could hear my Father’s voice saying ‘Have these people not got homes to go to?’ One does wonder!
