Oldest and Youngest

Of my parents Grand children that is, James aged nearly 16 and Elliot 6.

For some reason ( I think because we were all speculating if Elliot was actually heavier than the dog), we got the scales out and weighed ourselves....

Here are some quadratic equations:

Jess squared + Elliot = James
Grandad - Nanny = Elliot + Jess
Josephine - Elliot = Jess squared
