Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Sunday Morning

I slept fairly well last night once I knew that they were all on board their second flight from Istanbul to Johannesburg. I woke this morning just after eight and they were due to land on time at 8. 30. I've been so aware of this trip, the journey in particular, with two such little ones had been preying on my mind for some time. Now it's done and all went well, they've sent me photos of them in the pool - Josie looking really happy so that's good
Back here in cold wet reality, Katy seems to have gone down with Eilidh's bug of last week, which isn't really surprising. She took Isobel to her Brownies cinema trip this morning and went into work but came home again before lunch time. Eilidh and I, in the meantime had gone to church, she lit our second Advent candle at the start of the service.
After church, we didn't hang around and I took her down to Sainsbury's to buy her family secret Santa present, she did well I think, hopefully it's appreciated. Katy had gone to bed when I got home and so Isobel and I went back to Craigleith to find her gift. Again, I think she chose well. I'm keeping the gifts here, along with those chosen by their mum and dad and will wrap them so that that isn't a give away and they will all look the same.
We had an otherwise quiet afternoon, too much TV for the girls probably, but I was very tired after all the excitement of yesterday.
They did both do a violin practice, so I was pleased that I was able to tick that off my list.
Eilidh showed me a video her mum had taken. The school choir of which both she and Isobel are members had been carol singing on the steps outside the Dome on Thursday afternoon raising money for Edinburgh Children's Hospital charity - close to their hearts as their mum works there. They did really well and I was very impressed when Eilidh came out to the front half way through and accompanied the choir on her Violin as they sang several verses ofJingle Bells. Quite a thing to do in public when you are 10. Apparently she'd suggested she could do it.
Eilidh also noticed this afternoon that I'd forgotten to hang up my fabric Advent calendar, so I dug it out and corrected the omission.
Their Dad is still on nights, so after he woke up, he walked up to pick them up, before tea time, as their mum really wasn't fit to drive. She did manage to eat a very little this evening so hopefully things are getting better. It wiped Eilidh out for a couple of days, she was most annoyed that her hitherto perfect attendance was now spoiled for the first time in P7!

Here's one of my favourite songs about Sunday morning by the Velvet Underground and Nico. The chimes of the introduction and title line sound in my head whenever I hear the phrase.........which is quite often really.
