Nutcracker Soldiers

I walked in to town for a newspaper around 10 when the worst of the wind from Storm Darragh was over and there was a gap in the rain. I didn’t sleep well last night, there were many small power cuts which made the phone reset each time, so a walk to get some fresh air did me good. Some shops I expected to be open were closed, no doubt due to the storm warnings. This is a photo of the decorations above the greengrocers on the high street. I read that Christmas Nutcracker soldiers in German tradition are symbols of good luck, frightening away malevolent spirits and protecting your home (I must get a couple!). I got quite wet in the rain on the walk home, so then enjoyed watching A Haunting in Venice in the afternoon, in the warm and dry!
