Saturday Night & Sunday Morning ....
Nothing silly or funny about this Saturday I'm afraid. Storm 'Darragh' has wreaked much havoc around here in N.Shropshire. lashing rain, high winds, much flooding, trees down and flying wheelie bins etc. but I know that many parts of our Country are having it much worse than us. Storms like this remind me very much of the typhoons we experienced whilst living in Hong Kong, apart from the absence of wheelie bins.
Late afternoon we set off down flooded country lanes to our friend Helen's house to start our house & dog sitting duties on the morrow. When we got into H's village there wasn't a light to be seen anywhere ...... there had been a power cut since lunchtime. H had been trying to ring us but had no signal either. Anyway she had lots of candles going and the lovely log burner lit. We braved the elements and found somewhere fairly near to eat and then went back to hers to enjoy the rest of the evening by the log burner and by candlelight and various torches she took us through the long list of house duties!
Bed at about 11pm. Mr HB can sleep anywhere at anytime and was off to the land of nod in no time; unlike me and I had a horrible night. Bed was comfy and I was warm but what with the storm continuing to rage outside and the central heating box calling out for power and bleeping loudly every few minutes and me finding lots of things to worry about in the week ahead, sleep evaded me for most of the long hours ........
Now it's Sunday morning and still there is no power. H was up earlyish, got packed and after last minute instructions set off for Manchester airport in plenty of time for her flight to Frankfurt to stay with her friend for the week. Those of you who follow me will know that H's Partner Steve, died very suddenly and unexpectedly a month ago but usually would have taken H to the airport and come home to look after Tilly dog. But life is very different for H now and we are helping where we can.
We gave Tilly her breakfast and took her for a short walk and as there was still no power and we only live half an hour or so away we've popped home to have breakfast, shower etc and charge our phones. Then back to H's to start the house & dog sitting in earnest?!
Sunday's further installment may or may not be posted later???!
