The Vines
Bob has opened a couple more venues in Liverpool: The Munro and St Peter's Tavern. I suggested to our friend Ross that he and I should meet up in Liverpool and check them out. This rapidly morphed into a full on Good Gang* event, with Ash and E both coming along for the ride.
And so four of us met up at another of Bob's pubs, The Vines, just after midday, with E joining us after work. As ever, it was wonderful to see them all, and to settle down behind some beers and catch up.
And we did take in Bob's new venues. The Munro is a long-standing pub that he's renovated in keeping with his other pubs like The Red Lion and The White Hart. Sitting by the open fire was fantastic on what was a fairly grim day, weather-wise.
St Peter's Tavern is whole different kettle of fish. Many years ago Bob had a restaurant called Alma de Cuba in the old church, which he sold at the height of its success. Subsequent owners have overseen something of a decline, and Bob picked up the lease again a few months ago.
And now he has transformed it into a pub of quite breathtaking stature, whilst still maintaining a cosy feel. I don't know how he managed it but I was so impressed by it.
And we finished our day in a Chinese restaurant, slowly winding down for bed. It was a great day, and I feel very lucky that these were the friends I made at university.
