Dupuytren's disease
Today's blips are purely for my own record.
This morning I had my first appointment with Mr Chakravarty who will ultimately operate on my hand. As you can see I have Dupuytren's disease (also known as Dupuytren's contraction). My Dad had the same condition and heredity is one of the possible causes I took the blips so that I had a record of what the hand was like before the op.
He started as all surgeons do by telling me the possible bad outcomes just like the surgeon who replaced my hip told me I might die. However as it is done under local anaesthetic death would be a very remote possibility. He explained there are two possible methods. One done with a needle that has a good chance of starting to recur in two years and a more invasive procedure that might start to recur in 10 years. I said ten years might see me out he replied you would be surprised at how many 100 year olds I treat.
The long and the short of the day was we fixed a date in March for the op, afterwards it became clear I will be on the boat then so on Monday I will have to change the appointment for early April. The extra is a different view of my hand.
