Dreams
I've been going up to the Yerwood Center every Wednesday and Friday for the last three weeks, taking photos of the kids and filming them. Over the weekend I'm trying to put together a video for the kids so that, when they finish up this Friday and the parents come along to see awards being given out, we can put on a video which shows the kids over the month. It's a big job. I've got three weeks worth of video to splice together and still have this Monday and this Thursday to film.
I've been looking through the photos and it reminded me of when I went to Middleton Camp School for two weeks when I was a kid. It was a huge milestone in my life and I never forgot learning to drink tea, developing a crush for one of my teachers, and becoming Camp Champ. I came away less shy and more confident. I only have memories, and that's fine.
And that's when I had an idea. What if, when the kids see their video, they also be given a flash drive with an e-book on it which shows photos of all their team players, of the drills they had to do, shots of them in action, shots of some special moments, some group shots and finally, a special page dedicated to dreaming which has photos of all the homework they submitted asking them to write out their dreams (see photo). Vanessa Gidden is an inspiration. She talked to the kids about how you should never stop dreaming. She told them how she's still not fulfilled all her dreams but many have come true.
I thought it would be nice to have Vanessa's talk on the flash drive as well so that, down the road, when the Basketball Summer Camp appears on a distant horizon, the kids can put their flash drive into their computer and hear 'Miss Vanessa' talk to them, or they can look at the photos from their Summer, the Summer they were taught to dream big.
Lots more to do before Friday!
