Learning to drive our car...
So Now I have completed fifteen minutes of driving practice and got a feel for it on ice & packed snow. On an empty, flat field. No other traffic anywhere around.
Results:
With the Comfort mode, the car can be driven almost stationary at a very quiet speed, the rear end pushes nicely. Clear.
The Sport mode is more agile than the previous one. I can't think of winter use, at least not in normal conditions.
With the Eco mode, the car still offers traction, but lightly, not too much. This mode is really good for winter, if the driver doesn't know what he's doing or if he definitely doesn't want any surprises.
I haven't tried a couple of other driving modes (Traction and Individual) on a flat surface.
The D mode of the transmission is clearly better in winter, when the car doesn't start engine braking (like in the B mode). So with Drive, the car is in control of its speed.
When the Teivo parking lot was icy and in the snow that had become packed to ice, it was convenient to also try out the braking. There is a sled. Heavy sled. The steering is well maintained, because of the technology. However, you should be able to try it alternately with 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive clutches to be sure what the difference is. That's for another day.
You can only turn off the driving mode and lane departure warning when you're already moving. When I was starting, IDA said, standing in the yard, don't touch me.
I can handle this now.
So I don't know anything about cars. And I'm an average driver at best. But I got my license almost 40 years ago and started driving with rear-wheel drive (they were wonderful cars). This ID4 (nickname IDA) is now a return to the old days in that regard.
Sometimes you could go to a really slippery track to practice. There really weren't any like that in driving school when I was there, and I haven't had to go on my own money yet. Every winter, this training comes - and it's good to try out the quick training just like that.
