Out to sea

It was still a bit windy this morning, but by the time we packed up and left at 6pm, it was still outside. The night was also clear; you could see right across to Portsmouth. It's surprising how the weather can change in a few hours. Some parts of the country have had terrible weather this weekend, suffering from all the issues caused by high winds and flooding, but although we've been on the edge of the storm, the island has been OK.

I didn't have any meetings after the stand-up. That meant I was able to prep both lunch and a takeaway version of the lunch without having to rush to calls. Lunch involved a mixture of grains as the base, and dinner was just rice. Apart from the differences in the base, I cooked some chicken and vegetables, mixed some salad, and added it to the grains. Both were substantial meals.

We took dinner in a bag on the ferry. The new waiting area at Ryde Pier Head is lovely: all pale wood and many bench-like things to sit on. We had quite a wait to board as the incoming ferry was very busy; ours heading towards Portsmouth was the opposite: remarkably quiet.

We stopped at the terminal at Portsmouth to use their vending machines to get coffee. The staffed coffee shop was still open to buy food, but they were packing up for the evening, and the coffee machines were turned off at this time. We had plenty of time to board our train, and we both ate the prepared dinner before the 7:30pm train left the platform.
