Illuminights at Atlanta Zoo
Wednesday November 27
Since Jen is working tomorrow, we celebrated Thanksgiving today. Jen, Roger and I went to Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta (see extra), which was amazing. I was afraid it would be really crowded, and it was busy, but not too bad. It’s a huge place, with different zones, so there was space for people to spread out. We got back to Jen and Jason’s late afternoon, and we didn’t have to wait long before dinner was ready. One thing you will never have for Thanksgiving dinner at Jen and Jason’s is traditional Roast Turkey. Since there was just the four of us this year, it really made sense since turkeys are big birds. So he had chosen to do fried chicken instead, with a couple of side dishes which was very good. For dessert there was Chocolate pecan Bourbon pie which we all love, and then another “different” pie instead of Pumpkin pie. It was Pumpian Pie -:pumpian apparently being an olde English name for pumpkin, and this recipe allegedly dates back to Shakespeare’s time. Instead of the pumpkin being mashed, the pie has sliced pumpkin and apple, mixed with raisins, eggs and herbs, rather than spices. It was really very good.
In the evening, after dinner, we all went to the Christmas lights at Atlanta Zoo, which made a lovely way to wind up our stay.
