See the Scars?
"Faithful" followers, with a better memory than mine, may remember this one; may not be annual, I've not checked/remembered but they frequent at any rate; throw off the odd Sucker. My record is two at one go.
I doubt if anybody will not know - BUT - in case you don't Standard Roses are grafted onto a tall straight stock; back in the dawn of history we were taught that a Wild rose was used. A more recent search tells me that "The most commonly used rootstock is the Climber Dr. Huey. " whoever he is.
BUT - whatever is used tends, now and then, to throw out an example like the Blip linked above.
Today I went for a look at my attempted Air-Layer on the Acer and spotted the bottom of Alice's Standard thus. All the scars where I've torn off the Sucker show; I could possibly count how many there have been.
