Clydesdale mare and foal...

Our garden took a pounding as a result of the unexpected heatwave during our 2 week holiday. We could have organised someone to pop round and water the tubs, but, to be honest, it is very unusual in these parts to have no significant rain for 2 weeks. So, we returned to a garden looking parched and shriveled...
Today we headed for the Clyde Valley garden centres, to replace our lost colour... the hardy shrubs and trees in the flower beds were fine, but the pots and tubs were gone...
Hopefully this lot will fare better...
En route we spotted a field of wonderful Clydesdale horses... The Clydesdale is a breed of draught horse derived from the farm horses of Clydesdale, Scotland and named after that region. It was originally one of the smaller breeds of draught horses, but is now a tall breed. Scottish mares were mixed with Flemish stallions imported to Scotland in the early 19th century, and the breed became tremendously popular. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, thousands of these beautiful horses were exported around the world, many to Australia and New Zealand... so much so, that these lovely horses became known as "the breed that built Australia". Sadly, the breed is now vulnerable to extinction...
