The Old Laboratory
Backblip
I made good progress in the morning, passing extensive flooded areas, and decided to have lunch at RHS Wisley and then a very quick look around the gardens. I asked a member of staff what to best focus on as it was my first time and I only had an hour.
The image is of a building called the Old Laboratory. It looks like the original house to the estate donated by its owner to the RHS in 1904, allowing the RHS to move from its old garden at Chiswick to here. However, it isn’t. It was built as a laboratory, opening in 1916. It apparently uses parts of old manor houses from elsewhere, so is a bit of a pick and mix building.
The garden is getting ready for RHS Glow, its annual lighting event. There are illuminations and lighting effects here, but they don’t show up well in the image, it was still too light (a good thing as I still had some driving to do and as it turned out some flooding to navigate).
