Black Baldy
These are the result of a Hereford/Angus cross and this is the only one I have left, the rest being Herefords or Hereford/Shorthorn cross.
Now, I don’t like Angus cattle!! When I was working on a beef cattle farm in the ‘70s, an Angus cow tried to kick me into the following week causing me to pledge that I would never, ever, ever own any Angus. Forty years later during a drought, a neighbour couldn’t feed his cattle and asked if I could help out by buying his weanlings and a few Angus cows. I relented!! The weanlings were a loser but the four cows were sensational mothers and this cow is the 10yo daughter of one of those cows by my old Hereford bull. She’s almost at her life expectancy and the black steer in the background is probably her last calf.
I still don’t like Angus, but she’s a Black Baldy and she’s a lovely old cow.
