Luwire

We stayed overnight in Luwire Conservancy, one of the Reserve’s management blocks and another area I used to collaborate with in my previous job. It was excellent to catch up with the faces at Luwire and the owner was very generous and hospitable in providing food and a great deal of beer. We bedded down at Luwire for the night, at their camp which occupies a great spot on the Lugenda River. In the few years since I was last here, the camp has been remodelled by severe flooding of the Lugenda, so it is not recognisable. Equipment had to be salvaged from downstream and metres worth of silt and mud had to become the new camp foundation.

In terms of desk work, today was more limited due to large volumes of alcohol consumption the night prior. But it was another enjoyable and satisfying day in Niassa Reserve.
