Cadging
This morning entailed an early departure to the centre of the Community Conservation Area, cadging a lift in a vehicle of the partner organisation that runs it. This partner has been very generous and helpful to me on this stage of the journey and even let me rest my weary head in one of their cabins whilst I waited for the next leg to begin.
In the afternoon I was met at the airstrip by partners from the NGO that co-manages the whole of Niassa Reserve who have offered to host me for a week. We had a fantastic small aircraft flight deep into the heart of the landscape, landing at the Reserve headquarters as the sun was low. As I drank a sundowner with a colleague based here, barn owls swept low and hyenas loped in the shadows. Later as he dropped me at my tent an elephant shrew in the road was a final bonus for the day.
