Where do you stand on assisted dying?
Today Parliament passed a bill to allow assisted dying by 55 votes, more than was expected. But it has a long way to go before it becomes law.
What is your view? I am unequivocal. I believe in it. We give our pets a better death than our loved ones.
We have had two cats and one dog euthanised rather than let them suffer.
If you have ever watched a close relative or friend in the terminal stages of cancer it is a heart- rendering sight ( I have) and I reckon all those MPs who voted against the bill have never been confronted with the situation. Neither have they had to make the painful but kind decision to put a much-loved pet out of its misery.
The experience in other countries is that relatively few people take up the offer: Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, America, New Zealand, Australia and Colombia.
