Menhir

A drab wet day but I've finally located the standing stone near Great Hagley that, despite its height (almost 3m), has eluded me for several months. On previous walks in this area I must have been within a 100m or so and yet couldn't see it due to the lie of the land. The stone is composed of granite - which is not found locally - making it something of a mystery. Also, the stone appears to have a concrete base keeping it upright. Where did it come from? How long has it been here? Is it really a menhir? Although you wouldn't know it today because of the low cloud, the location is quite spectacular and on a clear day would provide views of Caer Caradoc Iron Age hillfort, Corndon Hill, the Long Mynd and Titterstone Clee among others.
