Village Meeting
There’s been a planning application- a third one - to build 73 wooden chalets and a hotel at the edge of our village on a flood plain.
The area is known as The Flashes as during heavy rain it becomes a wetland where lots of birds congregate, Lapwings, migrating birds, waders and the usual swans, ducks and geese. The company who wants to build on there had existing planning permission pending but it was dependent on further information. However 3 years ago they started shifting earth using heavy machinery before the permission had come through and it was stopped. By this time they had devastated the area, it ended up too deep for the wading birds and the lapwings didn’t return.
Now they are trying again and have reduced the number of chalets from 90 to 73 - as if that makes a difference!
The meeting was well attended and all but one person was against it. Emails/letters of objections have to be in by 4th December. Ours have already been sent.
There were lots of very knowledgeable villagers putting their arguments against, forward. The speaker was excellent and is very involved in wildlife Organisations. The that these idiots want to build on a flood plain is ludicrous with the climate changes and could cause flooding up and down river as far as Lancaster and York.
Our choir leader Sue lives overlooking The Flashes and said the Lapwings have just returned!
I put the video of Amelia skating on the Blipfoto Facebook page if anyone would like to see.
Frank was busy at the village hall today painting the backdrop for the play in a weeks time.
That’s the play we were originally in before Frank was ill. We will be in the audience.
Thanks for all the lovely comments, stars and hearts for my Blup yesterday. Amelia was over the moon!
Goodnight :-) X
