What not to do....
This is one of two seal pups at the harbour today. When the pups are weaned they spend a couple of weeks out of the water until their white coats moult. They live off their stored fat during this time, so if you come across a pup anywhere along the shore line the best thing to do is to LEAVE THEM ALONE... certainly don't chase them into the water with a stick, Sadly that's just what happened this afternoon to one of these pups by the actions of some thoughtless individual. This resulted in locals intervening and involving the police as well as (thankfully) the British Divers Marine Life Rescue organisation who have intervened to assess the condition of the remaining pup. I can barely contain my frustration at the stupidity and cruelty of forcing a seal pup over a three metre drop into the sea.....
