Gently down the stream

Not going

..to the Christmas Market!

Today I tossed up whether to go to the Christmas Market that's open now round the back of the Cathedral, but not only have I so far refused to dip my toe into Christmas, but the wonderful straw poll you all gave me yesterday made me feel quite justified in ignoring it for a while longer.  So instead I once again relied on my favourite blip place for damp grey days and steered into the Cathedral itself.

This bible, open on a page of the Book of Ruth is, amongst other things, a wonderful example of Medieval script.  It isn't any part of the Winchester Bible, which is guarded extremely carefully and absolutely not allowed to be photographed, but it does give a fair idea of the work that went into the production of books at this time.  Rather nicely, there is often a scribe working in the 'Scribes & Kings' exhibition and if you're lucky you may even get a very small sample.  I have a book mark with my name written on it by one of them..

Besides I thought the light here was beautiful.

Apart from a quick vacuum of the carpets, I've spent the rest of my day - ahem - reading (though trash fiction, I'm afraid to say, not the Bible).

Have a happy evening, all  xx
