Preparations
When I went up to check on the card stand at the Atrium café this morning I popped in to church, where Saints’ Babies had just taken place. Our old-fashioned fixed pews were removed many years ago and replaced by (very comfortable) chairs, and since then the church space has been very flexible, allowing it to be used in many creative and welcoming ways. On a Tuesday morning the chairs are re-arranged to form a large square facing inwards, creating a safe space in which the babies can play with the toys, crawl about on the carpet or have a nap while their mums sit and chat together over coffee.
Preparations are going well for our church’s 150th anniversary celebrations this weekend. Today a couple of friends of mine were polishing the brass plaques and the communion rail. Everywhere is looking shiny and festive, with Christmas trees and lights already in place for the civic service on Friday evening, and also for the usual school Christmas services in the coming weeks.
