Light Show
...and so it begins. The contests on how many lights one can cram on one's house. At least there are no blow-up Santas and snowmen on the lawn, but I'm sure they'll appear soon in the nearby neighborhood. I took this picture of the house across the street as we were leaving Dana and Jim's last night. The lights aren't really strung across the stairway. That is just an interesting effect as a result of moving the camera on such a slow shutter speed. I rather liked the moving snowflakes projected on the wall, but wouldn't go so far as to say I cherish them, but the lights translated well into mono so I'm tagging it anyway.
The atmospheric river with biblical rains and flooding has moved on, but there is still a front parked over us, treating us with dark days, Arctic temperatures and a dispiriting drizzle. We are gearing up for Thanksgiving which mainly involves food, food, and more food. Jim is cooking a turkey, and since he is doing that we'll be eating the evening feast at their house, but we will provide sandwiches at our house for anybody who wants lunch.
There will be fourteen of us, including Lindsay and Adisa's two little girls. I imagine they will have some interesting tales to tell about life on a houseboat during this epic weather. Tim and Joni will be here with Eden and Owen. Eden, neé Maya, will have stories about his first semester at U.C. Davis, Tim and Dana's alma mater. He announced last summer that he had gender disphoria and was changing his name to Eden, preferring the pronouns, he/him. Thank goodness the whole family is on board and supportive and there will be no elephants in our rooms or at our tables....
Matt will be having Thanksgiving in New York with the girls who are both working and can't get away for a trip to California. Air travel sounds like a nightmare, so I'm just as glad they will be staying there. There will be a phone call/face time with them when we are all assembled....
