Woodpigeon ( Columba palumbus )
During the morning a couple of woodpigeons were hanging around the feeder. Nothing unusual in that, when I go out to top up the feeders if there isn't a pigeon there one appears as I walk away.
Today was unusual, not in their hanging around but in where they were hanging about. Usually they are on a feeder, the bird table or just sitting on the grass. Today they were both in the Osmanthus delavayi right beside the feeders. This one was presenting a nice pose that I can't often get in their usual haunts.
Ona more depressing note I was reading a press release that stated UK populations of birds were in serious decline, not just single species but the over all numbers. The population is down by 61% since 1970 but more scarily they are down by 9% since 2018.
