From Virginia Beach …
… to Chincoteague, Va.
Since we didn’t need to be in Chincoteague … and the drive would only be around 2 hours … until the afternoon we had a relaxing morning at our resort before checking out. But we made sure we were up in time for our last sunrise here. It was another beautiful one … as can be seen in the Extra.
After breakfast we revisited the beach to feed the gulls and write our initials in the sand … also seen in the Extra.
And then it was soon time to check out and leave. We had booked a boat cruise in Chincoteague for this afternoon so we did have a time frame for arriving. Thankfully the drive was uneventful and we arrived at the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge in plenty of time to explore some of the area before heading to the boat launch area.
Our boat cruise was tons of fun … the boat was small and it was only Richard and I plus two other ladies. And Captain Randy was a hoot. We started by looking for the ponies. This part was slightly disappointing as we only saw two horses. Captain Randy then gave us all the option of looking for more horses or going out to sea to look for dolphins. And as you can see we went looking for dolphins!
And dolphins we found, too! It was so much fun ‘chasing’ after the dolphins and I was able to get so many great pictures. But one of my favorite things on the cruise was seeing up close lots of brown pelicans.
After spending lots of time with the pelicans and dolphins Captain Randy took us around the bay showing us lots of other things and giving us some history lessons! As I said he was a hoot! What was supposed to be a 2 hour boating trip turned in to almost 3 hours!
After the boating trip we had to find the Inn that we will be staying in tonight … we still hadn’t checked in and it was already 5pm! We found it without any problems, got checked in and unpacked a little bit before finding a place to have supper.
We returned to the inn after eating with enough time to watch the beautiful sunset.
Backblipped: November 25 ... and it's about time!
