Light at the end of the “tunnel”
Saturday
We were blessed today with a beautiful day, after a cool start. Our day began with wonderful home-made croissants, courtesy of Jason. Then Roger, Jen and I got out to enjoy the sunshine and get some exercise, leaving Jason to do some grading and later cook our evening meal. He loves to cook, and is less a fan of the great outdoors as we are! Jen took us east of Atlanta to Watson Mill Bridge State Park. It was a beautiful drive, through the Georgia countryside. The park contains the longest covered bridge in the state, spanning 229 feet over the South Fork River. It was built in 1885 by Washington King, son of freed slave and famous covered bridge builder Horace King. At one time Georgia had over 200 covered bridges, but today a mere 20 remain. Having examined the covered bridge from both sides, we did 2 trails, making a total of almost 4 miles. Then it was time to head back “home” to a delicious Indian style dinner, followed by dessert. In the evening we watched a good movie on Netflix, The Holdovers.
