Cranny waterfall
We've had an interesting day.
This morning we decided that the snow had cleared, and set off on the scenic route across to Cushendall. We missed the signpost for Altarichard viewpoint - well, we saw it as we passed, but assumed it was a footpath sign, as it had a walker on it! We then found that, although the snow has cleared everywhere else, there was still quite a lot of slush in the forested area - not difficult to negotiate, but would have made turning round to check the sign quite difficult.
We reached Orra Bridge without further incident. This is a junction, and our planned route had a "Road Closed" sign. We were just contemplating our options, when a local chap stopped, told us there was a landslide blocking the road, and offered to lead the way by an alternative route. Annoyingly, this meant I couldn't hop out and take any photos of the bridge. I'm actually sure we could have found our way quite happily with the aid of Google Maps and our in car Sat Nav, but it was very kind of him to do this for us - we followed him down to the coast road - again, mildly frustrated as the road was highly scenic, and we missed a number of photo ops,
We stopped in Cushendall for a coffee and loo break, then drove on down the very beautiful coast road - very scenic, but stopping opportunities were few, and not very well signposted. I'd seen on Google "the hidden village" - sadly it was so well hidden we missed it.
We also missed Cranny Falls the first time - had to turn round to find the tiny, unsignposted road up there. Google Maps found us the road, but then wanted us to park up on a single track road and jump off a cliff to reach them. We had missed the start of the path from this road, and had an interesting tour of some very narrow roads before getting back to the gate into the walk.
But the falls were pretty good. There's a lot of water in the fields around here, so obviously there was also plenty of water in the streams, and down the waterfall.
We decided we'd done enough, and headed back to our apartment for a leisurely evening. Home tomorrow.
