The Brechin Hearse
The original definition of "hearse" was the 15 candle set suspended above the Coffin in the Chancel of the Church.
The word "hearse" comes from the Middle English "herse," which referred to a type of candelabra often placed on top of a coffin.
The Brechin Hearse dates to the C13 th / 14 th.
