a lifetime burning

Galapagos Day 4

Still of shore from Isabella we were allowed a lie-in until breakfast at 7am.  Then we were loaded into the pangas to pootle around the mangrove lagoons off the shore at Punta Moreno for a couple of hours.  The Elliot's Petrel was taken from the panga not far from the yacht while we were still in deep water.

Once we reached the coast, there were Marine Iguanas in significant numbers, lazing in the morning sunshine as they warmed up after the night, and I’ve included one in the extras.  Also on the coast were Galapagos Penguins, and Blue Footed Boobies (again the Boobies are included as an extra.

Back on the Yacht by 10am we had time to change into our wet suits for a snorkelling session, again from the Pangas.  We drifted along the reef face, enjoying the abundant sea life, and I’ve included a Green Turtle as my last extra.

Finally, in the afternoon we visited a different section of the lagoons at Elizabeth Bay.  Some of us had the chance to go kayaking through the mangroves at this point.

Back on the yacht by panga, it was time for dinner, followed by the updating of our species checklist.  It is at this stage that Juan the guide tells us where we will be going in the morning, what our schedule will be and what we will need to prepare for.  Wet landing no shoes/wet landing shoes/dry landing/panga trip etc. Then at only 8:30 (at the latest) it is usually time for bed for most of us.

However, tonight we have the luxury of staying up a bit later, and because the sea is quite calm some of us are hoping to sit up on the sun deck and watch the stars, perhaps with a cold beer - the only light pollution being from the yacht.
