Dave and the Strangers
It was my cousin Les's annual birthday bash this evening. He's 81 on Monday and, as he has done for several years, he gets all his old bandmates together to play the old numbers. The venue was the British Legion Club at Normandy. Les's first band, back in the 60s, was Dave and the Strangers and the main photo shows Dave still in good voice as he belted out Johnny B Goode. The extra photo is another of his old line-ups. Les is on the left of the photos in the brown hat, playing rhythm guitar. He's never been a full-time musician but used to play regularly in various line-ups on the pub and club circuit. An extra delight was his granddaughter, Chloe, who has resumed Irish dancing, having been an excellent exponent of this rigorous discipline, performing two dances. Unfortunately she was moving so quickly I couldn't get a decent photo.
