Route 72

I bought an electric Swych Bike kit a few weeks ago to transform my ordinary bike from a Slow Cinderella into a Speed Queen. In fact, the speed is not the issue so much as to its ability to climb Lakeland passes, and in particular achieving the summit of Whinlatter pass and my work place. It's taken a while, with the help of a friend, to adjust the sensor correctly but, with clear weather forecast, it seemed ideal to initially test it out.
I thought I would start by using the old railway track to Seaton and joining into the Cycle Route 72 (Hadrian's Wall) going North towards Maryport. The views were amazing - this one is above Flimby looking over the Solway to Scotland. However, I was not so impressed with the kit's  performance helping me ascend the very sharp escarpment slope from  Camerton to the rail line. I did make it without getting off but felt quite overcome by the effort! Going along the flat increased my speed up to around 20 mph but then the battery appeared to be going down in charge. Hmmm? More testing needed.
