Liquid gold.
The chromatic eco traps seem to have to caught most of the dreaded olive flies.
We were lucky, we got a total of 140 liters from 1,000kg of olives. It may not seem much but was good, all things considered.
Some people get as little as 8 per 100kg.
The process from olives to oil takes about three hours. During that time, all eyes are locked on to their respective olives, green or black, maggots and all, while sharing and comparing methods of pest control and hopes for a good outcome and good yield.
For the record, it costs at least 14 euros for the oil extraction plus 40 euros for picking, (unless you are able to do it yourself) each 100kg of olives which, in our case produced 14 liters. So it cost us 54 euros each 100kg, just under 4 euros a liter, without considering costs of pruning, fly traps etc.
We do not consume the muck sold in supermarkets. It would be like spreading mud on toast instead of marmite.
