Time and Tide

The view over Alnmouth at high tide, very nearly at the end of another long and enjoyable day in the saddle. I spent the night in a B&B in Guisborough, then before breakfast visited the Priory there. The grounds were shut until 10AM, but a bit of a wander revealed that the best view was from the fields anyway. So, wet feet at breakfast and some nice scenes as the moon hung over the Priory in a clear blue sky.

Then a cycle on small roads and cycle paths into Middlesbrough (yes, that's spelled correctly) which is just as scary as ever so it was great to catch a prompt train north. I'd decided to visit the Roman stuff around Hadrian's wall and I expected a couple of train changes, but it turned out that the Middlesbrough-Hexam train is direct. Excellent! Even time for a bit of a snooze on the train :)

Then pottering around Corbridge Roman Town, which is well presented and dead interesting.

Maybe I spent too long there with 60 miles or so to go, it was nearly 8PM when I reached Alnwick. After a soak in the bath and a change of clothes, I walked around the town and found a lovely scene over the river to the castle as the sun set.

And now pints in a nice pub with good-natured karaoke in the background and super-fast WiFi.

Very, very good day!

The tide is important tomorrow again because I'm going to cross the causeway to Lindusfarne. Low tide at 11.46 is perfect. so that's on :)
