In the Face of the Storm
Braving Storm Bert we drove up the A30 to Exeter this morning and then on to Sidmouth, Three emergency ambulances in a line passed us sirens blaring and lights flashing. (not a good sign). Later - on the esplanade at Sidmouth heavy seas were battering the beach and sea wall (main blip). A coastguard helicopter then arrived flying low over the sea and then hovering above the town (extra). We didn't know at the time but people had spotted something (or somebody) in the swollen river and a major search and rescue operation was underway.
