Storm Bert arrived today
Most of the Scottish parkruns were cancelling fast this morning due to the weather. I was (not so secretly) hoping that Edinburgh would cancel too, but just before we were due to leave the house they announced they were ON!
It was the most miserable parkrun I have ever done. Horizontal, stinging sleety snow on the way out and slush covering the whole prom. Although my body was quite warm as I had about half a dozen layers on, my hands were absolutely frozen and the snow was getting through my gloves. By around half way I had to start walking as I was so miserable and felt a bit sick. The return with the wind on our backs was a bit better and my hands warmed up, so I was able to jog back the last couple of kilometres and finished in one of my worst times.
It was bad for the “runners” but it must have been really awful for the volunteers, although this trio returning to base at the end looked cheerful!
I was pretty much soaked through when we arrived home - including the “waterproof” socks, and never has a warm shower felt so welcoming.
I ventured out along the street later and the thaw had set in - my wellies were brought into service. I saw my first snowman of the season on top of a bin (extra). Second extra shows the slushy streets as it was getting dark.
