On Some Days

Long As I Can See The Light . . . C C R

There is a corner of the lounge that in the evening is dark.  I hadn't found a lamp to put there.  One night at street drinks I took a flask shaped bottle of Dunners Gin from Dunedin, NZ.  I finished the last two drinks in the bottle and we were admiring the shape of the bottle.  I casually said it would make the base of a lamp.  Kim a neighbour makes lamps from recycled timber and copper pipe and he said leave it with him.  Once he had cut the base off the bottle which took a bit of experiementing on old bottles before cutting into mine.  He came over and measured up the space.  Last night it was drinks at his home and he had the lamp set up on the table.  I love it but of course I would.  The wood for the back and the base are pieces of drift wood picked up at Rabbit Island.  The photo on the wall is of Rabbit Island.  He has left the wood at the back natural.  I like that the stopper in the bottle has been included.  One night I will take a photo of the bulb.  At night it makes the wooden walls glow but it does light up the pictures.   The cost, a bottle of whiskey.  He got two bottles because I can.
