Camilla and Katie pose in the church
I arranged to meet Camilla at St Laurence church in Stroud this lunchtime so I could continue my photographic record of the church and surroundings. Camilla is leading the group who are coordinating the plans to regenerate both the fabric of the building as well as establishing a new role for it in the community. It is becoming a centre of interfaith activities as well as a space for musical and other cultural events.
Camilla opened the building and helped me as I went round filming the specific subjects that are needed to visualise the problems of the building’s fabric, such a damage to stonework caused by damp both rising and descending. Some of the stained glass windows are also in need of care, and they are a delight to photograph, having such beautiful colours and forms. A Heritage Lottery Fund Bid is in the offing so the images will be used to show what the funds are needed for.
Just as we were finishing Katie L-N arrived. She is also involved with coordinating the church’s use and today she was about to guide a group of singers round the venue so they could prepare for their forthcoming concert.
As Camilla and Katie spoke to each other I asked them to pose for a photo. I swiftly asked them to turn towards the lovely sunlight shining through a stained glass window and took this picture. Katie is in a lovely red coat.
I’ve also added an ‘Extra’ of the first photo I took in the church today to show the newly installed hanging lights, which also act as infrared heaters to warm the spaces below.
