Eye to Eye

Airbourne. Just.

I was so excited to see a Great White Egret this morning between hail squalls. (A couple of extra poses). Apparently, the use of its up to 50 cm long decorative plumes in ladies’ fashion in the 19th century, almost caused it to become extinct.
The population of the Great White Egret has increased in Switzerland since 1994/1995 when a few isolated individuals were first seen in the winter. However there has only been one successful brood raised in the spring and that was 10 years ago. They breed mainly in France as the Swiss reed beds are not extensive enough for them.

It is snowing hard now so I might return to the Lakeside tomorrow, I won’t be going into the mountains! In fact I’m wondering which of my hardy yogis will arrive tonight!
